What is PAN card?

Permanent account number (PAN) is a unique alpha-numeric number assigned to every tax paying individual/ group in India. It is mandatory to have PAN card if you are liable to pay taxes to the government. There has been a new design of PAN card with a unique QR code apart from your unique number. This is in order to simplify the process and increase the security. Also unlike the previous design, the signature of the PAN card holder is mandatory on the PAN card. PAN card can be applicable for individuals, companies and foreign citizens within India. It is also majorly used as a proof of identity throughout the country. What is Aadhaar Card?

Aadhaar card was introduced in 2009 in order to ease life. Instead of using voter’s identity, ration card, pan card,etc one single card was introduced serving the purpose of all others. It is a 12 digit unique number and is a voluntary service for every citizen to have one. It serves as a proof of identity nationwide. By getting your Aadhaar card done, the state has a complete database including your photograph, fingerprint, address and personal details. Another objective behind Aadhaar card is to collect the biometric and demographics of all citizens and store them in a centralized database. Why is Aadhar card and PAN card link mandatory?

As of 9th June 2017, a judgement was passed by the supreme court that it is mandatory to link your Aadhaar card with your PAN card in case you have both issued.  Here is a step by step guide on how you can link both the cards

Step 1: Visit the official site to link your PAN card and Aadhaar card by clicking here.

Step 2: Fill out all the details like your name, PAN, Aadhaar card number and captcha. Make sure you enter all the details as per your Aadhaar card and PAN card.

Step 3: Enter all your personal details. 

Step 4: Finally, click on ‘submit’.

Once all the details is verified, you will receive a message that the PAN and Aadhar card link has been successful.
