Voting in elections is not just a right, but also a duty. Voter ID cards issued by the Government of India are essential for voting in elections. They also serve as valid identification proof in many other situations. To apply for a voter ID card you must be at least 18 years old. Once you have applied for a voter ID card, you can easily check the voter ID status online.

How to check the voter ID application status online?

To check the status of your voter ID card online, please follow the given steps:

Log onto the official National Voters’ Services Portal website.

Under ‘Track application status‘, click on ‘Click here‘.
On the ‘Online Application Status‘ page that opens next, enter your reference id. (The reference id is given to you when applying for the voter ID card.) And then click on ‘Track Status‘.

The status of your voter ID card will now be displayed on the screen.

Note: After completing the application process, you should ideally receive your voter ID card in a month or two. Or at least the verification team should visit your residence within this time. In case neither of the above happen in two months, you can inform the ERO, the local tahsildar, the zonal officer, or the polling station of your area.

How to check the voter ID correction status online?

You can similarly check the status of voter ID correction from the National Voters’ Services Portal website. You will need to enter the reference number allotted to you on submission of Form 8. The process of making corrections in your voter ID card takes approximately 2 to 3 weeks.

Alternatively, you can check the status by calling 1950 from your BSNL or MTNL phone.

How to search for your name in the electoral roll?

To search for your name in the electoral roll, follow the given steps:

Log onto the official National Voters’ Services Portal website.
Click on ‘Search Your Name in Electoral Roll‘.
On the next page, you can either search by entering your details, or by entering your EPIC number, state, and code. (Every individual who applies for a voter ID card is allotted a Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) number.)

After entering the details, you will have the option to download/print voter information slip, find your polling station, apply for an address change, etc.

How to check the voter ID enrollment application status online via state CEO website?

Follow the given steps to check the enrollment status of your voter ID card:

Log on to the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of your respective state. (The state-wise list of websites is given below.)
These websites contain all the details related to voter ID cards like searching for your name in the electoral roll, helpline numbers, etc.
You can search by entering your name and other details, or by entering your EPIC number.
You can also download the form for applying for a duplicate voter ID card (EPIC-002). And then you have to submit the duly filled form along with the required documents at your local electoral office.
