In the last few months, lots of people have bought Jio SIM cards because of their popular Welcome and Happy New Year offers. While they have great services, many people are facing some problems like call dropping and connectivity issues.
If you facing a problem using your Reliance Jio 4G SIM card, don’t worry, because it can be easily solved. Some of the common problems are –
Problem: Why can’t I make calls using my Jio 4G SIM Card?
Solution: The first thing to do is find out whether or not your phone supports VoLTE. You can check out this list of smartphones that support VoLTE.
If your phone supports VoLTE (Voice over LTE)
When your phone does support VoLTE, and you still can’t make calls using your Jio SIM card, follow these steps –
If you have a dual SIM phone –
- Remember that most phones support VoLTE only on SIM 1.
- So insert the Jio SIM card in the slot for SIM 1.
- If the VoLTE symbol is showing on your phone screen, you can now make calls using your Jio SIM card through the regular dial pad on your phone.
Tele-verification for calls –
- Jio verification is separate for data and for calls.
- You may have already verified your Jio number for data, but you will have to verify it for calls separately.
- Dial 1800-890-1977, or you can dial any phone number and it will take you to the Jio verification service.
- Enter your details based on the proof you had provided when buying the Jio SIM card.
- Calling will now be activated.
If your phone doesn’t support VoLTE
VoLTE is a feature that allows calls over data network. For phones that don’t support VoLTE, Reliance has launched the Jio 4G Voice app (earlier called JoinJio). You can use this app to make HD voice and video calls using your Jio 4G SIM card even if your phone doesn’t support VoLTE.
How to install the Jio 4G Voice app?
- Insert the Jio SIM card in slot 1 of your phone.
- Turn on your phone.
- Go to Settings > Mobile Networks.
- Select ‘Search Network Manually’.
- Select ‘Jio 4G’ from the different available networks shown on your phone.
- Once you are on the Jio 4G network, install the Jio 4G Voice app from the Play Store.
- Open the Jio 4G Voice app. It might show offline status. (If the Jio mobile data is turned off.)
- To make it online, turn on the mobile data of your Jio SIM card.
- Now you can make calls directly from this app.
Problem: Why is the Jio 4G Voice app not working/showing offline?
Solution: If the app is not working on your phone, check the following –
- Mobile data of your Jio SIM card should be turned on. The Jio 4G Voice app will show offline on other networks’ (example – Airtel, Idea, etc.) internet.
- WiFi should be turned off. Or else your phone might connect to the internet using WiFi.
- If the above two solutions don’t work, try switching on the ‘Airplane’ mode from the Settings for a minute. Now turn the ‘Airplane’ mode off. If you can’t find the ‘Airplane’ option, just restart your phone. After Jio receives signal, turn on the Jio mobile data. Within 15 seconds your Jio 4G Voice app will be online.
Problem: Why am I not receiving messages on my Jio 4G SIM card?
Solution: This problem can occur if VoLTE is not supported on your phone. In that case, follow these steps –
- Install the Jio 4G Voice app, or update it to the latest version.
- While installing/updating, the app will ask for several permissions regarding calling and messaging.
- Grant all the permissions to make sure all the functions work.
- Messages will be sent from, and can be checked directly on your app.
- Remember that while checking messages, you do not have to open your default inbox.
Problem: Why does it come ‘Network Busy’ when calling numbers on other networks?
Solution:
- This is a problem with the other networks, not Jio.
- Calls need an interconnect point that is necessary for the call to connect.
- Several other leading telecom providers like Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, etc have disagreed to give Jio these interconnect points.
- TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) will resolve this problem soon.
- Until then you just have to have patience, because you can do nothing about this from your side.
- You can perhaps call using WhatsApp, since on Jio offers you can currently get great free data anyway.
Problem: Why does my phone say SIM card not recognized?
Solution: Try taking out the Jio SIM card from your phone, and reinserting it in the slot properly.
Problem: Why are there no signal bars?
Solution: Follow these steps –
- Insert the Jio SIM card in slot 1 of your phone.
- Turn on your phone.
- Go to Settings > Mobile Network > Preferred Network Type
- Select ‘LTE’.
So find the needed solution, and enjoy using your Jio SIM card!
